Chinese New Year celebrations

The first main event will take place on Sunday 22 January from 12:00 - 7:00 in China Town, with staged performances of acrobatics, singing, poetry readings, dancing and kung fu, plus a market, food stalls, lion dances, workshops and a funfair.

A traditional Dragon Parade featuring a 175 ft long dragon to chase away evil spirits and welcome in prosperous times. It will start at Manchester Central Convention Complex at 12:00, make its way to China Town via Mount Street, Peter Street, Oxford Street, Portland Street, Princess Street and Faulkner Street:

12pm-12.30pm: Performances, Outside Manchester Central
12.30pm-1.15pm: Dragon Parade, Manchester Central to Chinatown
1.15pm: Dragon Parade, Arrives at Chinatown
Performances, Faulkner Street Car Park, Chinatown

In addition, a performance of the Night Dragon happens in China Town at 5pm and 6pm on Sunday 22 January, and again at 6pm (check the time) on Sunday 29 January.

Chinese market
There is a Chinese market in Piccadilly Gardens, open every day from Saturday 21st to Sunday 29 January, 12.00 to 7pm.
